Transportation Services

The mission of the Transportation Department is to safely and efficiently transport eligible individuals throughout the county while supporting their choices through community partnerships and quality services. It is our goal to have easy access to affordable and timely transportation to the services and support of their choice.

Individuals are encouraged to use the least restrictive means of transportation, which could include Regional Transit Authority (RTA), Black and White Cab, self transportation, private providers, or board owned buses, van, and/or cars

People who are employed in the community may use board owned vehicles, RTA, or self transportation to get to their jobs. A nominal fee is charged when using board owned services.

We also provide contracted transportation with Job and Family Services.

Transportation to Community-Based Employment

The Board owns cars, vans, and wheelchair vans for people who are employed in the community that cannot access alternative transportation. Individuals are responsible for reporting work schedules to the transportation department. There is a nominal fee for the use of Board owned vehicles used for community placement.

Transportation to Day Services

The Board also owns and operates yellow buses to transport individuals to school, workshop, community outings and field trips. The Board also has vans and cars that can be used for this purpose.

Coordinated Transportation

As many of you know, in 2008, Federal Regulations mandated each County in the State of Ohio to develop a Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan to continue access to federal funds. A local coordination strategy was put in place that provided better transportation service to special-needs groups by using existing resources more efficiently/effectively.

On October 1, 2008 the Allen County Board of DD partnered with Delphos Senior Citizens and Allen County Regional Transit Authority (RTA) for transportation services for adults and children that accessed the Delphos Bus Route.

On January 4, 2010 the Allen County Board of DD partnered with Allen County Regional Transit Authority (RTA) for transportation services to adults and children that accessed the Spencerville Bus Route, which includes a portion of Shawnee Township.

On August 25, 2010 the Allen County Board of DD partnered with Allen County Regional Transit Authority (RTA) for mid-day transportation services for EI and Pre-School Children. These partnerships allow us to use existing resources, reduce overlaps in service and increases efficiencies. The Plan is subject to ongoing review and is maintained to meet Federal requirements. To date, the coordination has worked out very well.

Your understanding and support of these new endeavors is appreciated. The result not only maintains Federal Funding that is needed, it also serves both the Delphos and Spencerville Community by filling gaps in transportation services.

We also provide contracted transportation with Job and Family Services and the Allen County Educational Services Center.
