You’re a parent, of course you put your kids first. From day one you are taking care of them, making sure they have everything they need to develop and grow. You’re on top of their different doctor’s appointments, and sometimes you know your kid so well you can answer their questions before they even ask them.
You are a great parent. No one is questioning that.
But when is the last time you took some time for yourself? Of course your kid(s) consume most of your life, they have a lot of needs and it is your instinct to provide– and it is a good one. There comes a time though, where you need to take time for yourself.
You cannot put your kid at first priority if you aren’t healthy enough to actually help.
It is O.K to take some time for yourself or to do something that makes you feel happy or “normal” actually, it’s encouraged! The only way you can make sure your child is feeling their best, is to make sure you are feeling your best, too. Take some extra time to do the little things you enjoy, they impact you more than you think.
Here’s a list of things you need to remember to make time for because your kid is important, and so are you!
Friends Who Get It
Sometimes all you need is a real conversation with real adults, especially ones that understand where you’re coming from. It’s easy to vent and rant when you are frustrated or upset, and these people will get it better than anyone. Find someone you rely on and talk to them, that’s what friends are for.
Your Spouse Still Matters
Whether it’s work or homecare getting in the way it’s easy to put your marriage on the back burner, but that certainly doesn’t help anyone. Make sure you both know how much you support each other, and make each other a priority. Talk, laugh and be Married!
Extra Help
It’s hard to admit when you need help, but it might be impossible to take on every single task that’s thrown on your way. Find professionals that make your life easier and not more complicated. Seek doctors and help that you can rely on and who really do understand, trusting the people that help you will relax you more than you think!
Sleep
Get some of it. Get a lot of it. You Deserve it.
Coffee

Finally, Find Time To Do Things You Enjoy
Whether it’s watching a movie you like or going for a walk around the block, take time to do the simple things that make you happy. Although life is hard, it really is worth it, so breathe and laugh and relax any time you get the chance.
It’s no doubt that your kids need you, and dedicating yourself to them is great parenting. But take care of yourself so you can be there for them as long as they need. Don’t feel guilty for treating yourself, feel rewarded. Great parents deserve great things. Take them!
